Length:
Games that are meant to be played hours on end and games that are meant to be played a few minutes at a time should not be subject to the same rating system. World of Warcraft’s and Guitar Hero’s should not share the same rating system for the same reason one does not compare fine dining to Mc Donald’s. Sure one may be better but maybe you don’t want better. Perhaps you crave a simple sandwich instead of a 3 course meal. Not everyone has the time or money for such a commitment.
Looks:
Graphics are something that should not influence the rating of any game. Ever. With the recent success of Minecraft, Terraria and other indie games there is proof that games can be very successful without having the stunning realism of modern shooters such as Call of Duty. The aesthetics, on the other hand, are a much more important issue.
Money:
Let’s talk about bang for your buck. I’ll reuse the fast food vs. dining example. Would you pay 10 bucks for a burger from Mc Donald’s? Yes? Then you must be really hungry because you can get those off of their dollar menu. Now, would you pay 10 dollars for a real cheeseburger with sides, a waiter serving you and for the beautiful atmosphere of the restaurant you’re sitting in? That sounds more reasonable. What would you rate a fast food burger if you had paid 10 dollars for it? Definitely not as high as if you had paid 1 dollar for it. And that’s why I believe that PRICE should be a major factor in game reviews.
I plan on adding videos and my own personal game reviews in the near future.
