Team Fortress 2

Team Fortress 2 is now free to play, however to be a registered player it costs $5. So I will be basing the rating off of that price.
Classes:
I could go on forever about classes but instead I'll leave you with a link of their videos. Though, keep in mind they're a bit exagerated.

Weapons:
Prefer to move faster but do less damage? Or perhaps sacrifice a secondary weapon for a health bonus? Maybe you'd rather get a very situational advantage instead of a general advantage. The choice is yours.
Drop System:
The drop system was horrible at first. Now that it's evened out I believe it's mostly fair. Every 50 or so minutes of playing you get an item drop. You can get about 10 or 12 weapons per week. If you do not claim your items for that week they'll stack for up to 2 weeks.

Crafting , Trade and Store:
The duplicate weapons or items you don't want can be crafted into metal and used for trade. So nearly any weapon or item you can buy in the store can be aquired via legit gameplay and trading. Nearly anything you can buy can be aquired without money. The things that are purchase-only are not complete upgrades over other items or weapons. In fact they're mostly hats and other useless aesthetics. Keeping things fun and balanced. Also now with Steam Trade you can trade the items from one game for the items from another or trade some items for an actual game.
Maps:
Capture the flag, capture the point, push the cart, king of the hill, trade, cart race and lots of other maps and map styles are available. Best part? They're all free. You don't have to pay to play on maps like many other DLC heavy shooters.
Overview:
TF2 has a very unique style of gameplay. Unlike most shooters the rounds require much teamwork. There are no frag grenades or quickscopes for unfair kills. The game is not perfectly balanced but it definately seems more fair mathmatically than other shooters. You do not level and the new weapons you aquire are not 100% upgrades. They each have upsides and downsides that often depend on playstyle and who your current enemy is. Each class plays out differently than the other ones while remaining true to the TF2 universe. You'll have fun experimenting with the 9 classes and the dozens of weapons. If you're still not sure, just try it. It's free to play with optional registration. To register you buy $5 worth of items in the store.
