I can summarize my feelings of this game in one unfortunate sentence.
“An adventure RPG where you’re invincible ಠ _ ಠ ?”That’s right. You can’t die in Fable II. Well, I take that back. You CAN die, but you’ll get right back up with no real penalty whatsoever. Sure some XP orbs will fall out of you, but you can pick those right back up off of the ground! Oh, and don’t forget you get a scar on your character. Not that it matters.
Gameplay:
The purpose of a good RPG is to level up and increase your skills, gold, armor, weapons, spells, all of that to eventually achieve virtual invincibility and ultimate riches while offering numerous gameplay choices across multiple classes. Great examples of this would be Skyrim and maybe even Killing Floor.
Riches:
How do you earn your riches and power in Fable II? Get a job and repeatedly press "A" so you can make gold. The invincibility comes with you automatically so you don't need to worry about that. Why not just kill monsters for gold? Because in this “adventure” game the monsters don’t drop much gold. The most gold you can make is by working. Working. In a video game.
Power:
There’s even an “I win” button in this game. The fireball (or really any damaging spell). Why? Spells are the most damaging moves in the game and require absolutely NO resource to cast. At all. Not only has health been removed, but you come with unlimited fireballs. Though, you don’t have to level magic in this game if you don’t want to. You could level something more challenging like the guns and bows that auto target enemies for you. Or maybe become good with melee and spend a lot of time working to get better armor. Though you don’t have to work in this game. Well, heck, you don’t have to do anything at all. Your character can’t die. There’s no point.
Story:
Adventure RPG’s usually come with a halfway decent story. This was en entirely and poorly copy-pasted story from the first Fable. I’m serious. It’s the exact same story that plays out painfully predictably and awkwardly due to the fact that it is in a different time period. The time of muskets. Because of this time period a lot of the cool medieval themes, creatures and places were heavily damaged or nonexistent. The game is titled "Fable" not "History".
Final Boss:
Spoilers? No. I’d call this a warning. In this adventure RPG the final boss dies in one hit. One hit. He can’t even damage you. He just whines at you and if you let him whine too long your ally will shoot him before you do. One. Hit.
Overview:
This was a horrible excuse for an adventure RPG. I’ll never understand why it was so popular. Please do yourself a favor and buy “Fable: The Lost Chapters” if you wish to experience Fable and enjoy it.
